Set on the banks of the historic Beaulieu River on the Exbury Estate in Hampshire, the Palais des Vaches was once a grand milking parlour. It was built as part of a model farm by Nicholas de Rothschild’s grandfather, Lionel, scion of the Rothschild banking dynasty and creator of the renowned Exbury Gardens.The parlour’s extravagant Arts and Crafts architectural style soon earned the affectionate nickname ‘The Cow Palace’ amongst the estate farm workers.Over the last few years, Nicholas de Rothschild, president of Exbury Gardens, and artist, Caroline de  Rothschild (pictured), sympathetically renovated the derelict ‘Cow Palace’  transforming it into the ‘Palais des Vaches'. This gem of the New Forest National Park is now the largest Contemporary Art Gallery in Hampshire. The current art collection, curated in collaboration Coastal Gallery , includes work by outstanding locally-based artists such as sculptors Geoffrey Dashwood, Michael Turner, fine artists John Ilsley and Stewart Beckett, and renowned British abstract artists Martyn Brewster, Neil Canning and Felice Hodges.  Alongside are pieces by critically acclaimed artists including Patrick Caulfield, David Hockney and Eileen Cooper. An exceptional display of photography by  Michael Meyersfeld, Charlie Waite, as well as vintage images by the late Sam Haskins adds still further to this inspirational collection.The Palais is particularly proud of its stable of fine ceramicists including Arek Nowicki, Peter Arscott, Wendy Farley, Jackie Giron, Leo Dashwood and Peter McGinnis.We look forward to welcoming you !Nick & Caroline de RothschildFOUNDERS
