• After starting as a school photographer at 15 in York, Close moved to Johannesburg, working in a portrait studio and for the press. In 1984, he transitioned into commercial and advertising photography, a field he continues to this day.

Throughout his four-decade career, Close has also cultivated a substantial body of personal landscape work from the places he’s lived and visited. The images here, primarily from the New Forest, were shot on large-format Polaroid film, with the film rebate intentionally included to highlight the photographic process. Close is a co-curator of PALAIS PHOTO, showcasing fine art photography.
